GSM modem

I use Hyper  terminal, try to communicate with GSM modem, but no response.. See below any idea why? 
 
> GTA02v6 # neo1973 gsm on
> GTA02v6 # terminal serial
> Entering terminal mode for port serial
> Use '~.' to leave the terminal and get back to u-boot
> ATE1
