audio scenarios files

Where can I find documentation about how those files are supposed to
work?  Are applications (e.g. ekiga, linphone, MPD, younameit) expected
to be changed to switch scenario when a phone call comes in or when
a song starts playing?  How are applications supposed to cooperate
(e.g. when a GSM phone call comes during a VOIP phone call while MPD is
playing a song)?
