This seems very likely. However, there's nothing to suggest that
TX_DISAB will be any better. I'll ask Telit.

You mean a case redesign ? :) If you mean a software kill switch,
why bother ? We control the modem via the serial interface. In case
that communication breaks down, then we could always shut down the
(then useless) modem entirely, to prevent that malfunction to cause
even more problems.
