Dunno. In any case, if you're not using the GPS at that moment,
you could play with pin TXD2/nRTS1/GPH6 (net nGPS_CTS). There's a
conceniently solderable test point right next to the debug
connector.

IR remotes usually don't have anything to do with IrDA. That's a
different sort of protocol. (So being IrDA-capable neither hurts
nor helps.)
