I concur, for what that's worth.  The OpenWrt and the nslu2-linux 
projects have accumulated a great deal of experience on what you can do 
with 2 - 8 MByte of flash, very basic bootloaders, and without even a 
console.  Limitations of a bootloader can be worked around.
