This doesn't make any trouble because the video mode is set immediately
afterwards, resetting it to 1 (/2), so there are no artifacts with or
without it, which is how it survived testing.

But you can omit the first two stanzas both of which came from trying
and then discarding lower PCLK, only the last bit does the magic.
