Ah, but that's precisely the thing that doesn't happen so easily.
At least not at the kernel level. Once a certain functionality is in
mainline, it tends to stay there for a good long while, no matter
whether the original authors, the company that made it, or any
interim maintainers still like it.

I wouldn't know of one either :-) Yes, we shouldn't mislead people
into believing we'd keep on actively maintaining our products
until the end of time. I hope nobody thinks we're crazy enough to
even consider attempting that ;-)
