I don't see any urgent needs to change that. First, there is no need for
Vala, it's C. Second, glib is only used for the dbus interface, so no
runtime penalty for actual MUXing. Since we have glib on the device
anyways, I don't see a problem.

If we're talking about possible adoption by projects that can't afford
to have glib on the device, yes that may be another thing. Those guys
probably don't want a userspace MUXer anyways though.

I rather like the way how we currently allocate /dev/pty/<n> on demand
for a virtual channel and release it when it's no longer necessary.
