NAND u-boot activates the charger every other second, so that it can
measure the battery voltage. (Which would read too high if there's no
battery present.)

Thus, your average charge current in u-boot without USB signaling that
500mA are okay or a charger being connected, is
(90mA-system_consumption)/2

This should be about 10mA, so expect charging from, say, an unpowered
hub, to take a while ...
