I don't agree with this, but it's out of scope for me anyway.  All I can
impact is our kernel situation, and not always even the packaging of it.

I think you hit the nail on the head with this talk about making the
kernel good enough that people don't need to use something else, and
coming at unification "by carrot", because in a FOSS context there is no
stick.  People can and should always be able to roll their own at will
if for no other reason than not to be oppressed by our decisions.

I wrote to mwester yesterday and asked him if he would mind submitting
any patches he has floating around here, and explained that if he
doesn't like to do that for some reason I will take care of it for him.
   I think that's all that can be done about unsubmitted stuff not
appearing in our kernel...
