Somebody in the thread at some point said:

Not at all... the only hardware RTC is the one in the PMU which has a
good quality 32kHz source.

The RTC in the CPU is not used for anything and does not receive that
32kHz source anyway.

So the "system clock" in Linux is being tracked by a completely
different clock source, ultimately from a 12MHz crystal.
