Does dmesg show anything, e.g., a disconnect or a re-association ?
What does iwlist scan say about the access point ? Are there any
other access points nearby ?

That enc vs. maxperf problem of yours is a strange one. I asked Atheros
about the differences between the two modes, but they only know of some
potential SDIO communication issues that we don't seem to have. I
posted an experimental patch for this a while ago. It would be good
if you could give it a try, if only to make sure that this isn't the
problem:
