U-Boot 1.3.2-moko12, as shipped with the handset

When booting 2008.8 from MC using NAND uboot menu
....
It goes as far as:
EXT3 FS on mmcblk0p2, internal journal
EXT3-fs: mounted filesystem with ordered data mode
VFS: Mounted root ( ext3 filesystem )
Freeing init memory:128k
Warning: unable to open initial console
Failed to execute /etc/startup.Atempting defaults
Kernel panic -not syncing: No init found. Try passing init option to kernel

What version of uboot are you using?  I suppose that could affect the
bootability of an ext3 partition...
