@Mickey and Andy
Thanks for Your replies!

@Andy, here some outputs:

root at om-gta02:~#
cat /sys/devices/platform/bq27000-battery.0/power_supply/bat/current_now
cat: read error: Timer expired

root at om-gta02:~#
cat /sys/devices/platform/bq27000-battery.0/power_supply/bat/voltage_now
cat: read error: Timer expired

root at om-gta02:~# apm --monitor
Line   : on
Battery: -1% (?)

And to finish it off some dmesg output

root at om-gta02:~# dmesg | grep bat | tail
[ 266.180000] power_supply bat: driver failed to report `temp' property
[  273.545000] power_supply bat: driver failed to report `time_to_full_now'
property
[  339.365000] power_supply bat: driver failed to report `current_now'
property
[  365.650000] power_supply bat: driver failed to report `voltage_now'
property
[  422.885000] power_supply bat: uevent
[  422.885000] power_supply bat: POWER_SUPPLY_NAME=bat
[  422.890000] power_supply bat: Static prop TYPE=Battery
[  422.895000] power_supply bat: 11 dynamic props
[  422.895000] power_supply bat: prop STATUS=Charging
[  422.915000] power_supply bat: driver failed to report `voltage_now'
property

@Mickey:
between the Plus+ and Minus- sign I have a CC symbol on my battery!

So I am thinking hardware error?!
Although I recall seeing a full green battery indicator under Qtopia once
(don't know if it actually worked, i.e. got less full with time etc., since I
uninstalled Qtopia again) I sure am not seeing one under OM2008.0x :\
